Camellia Oil - Tsubaki abura
Made in Japan (Isu Islands)
Ingredient: 100% Tsubaki Oil
Size: 70 mL (2,3 oz) / 118 mL (3.9 oz) / 1 L (33.8 oz) / 1.8 L (60.9 oz)
This oil has been produced on the island of Toshima (Isu Shoto), off Tokyo, for more than a century. It is used by many Japanese wood workers as well as specialists in ancient blade (shinken) who are looking for a more stable oil than the Choji oil.
The 70 and 118 mL are conditionned in glass bottles. 1 and 1.8 L are conditionned in metal cans. Cans are not available in stock and require about a week before shipping.
Treatment with Camellia oil is recommended by the craftsmen who make our wooden weapons. The regular oiling is necessary for unvarnished weapons. It is recommended also for the maintenance of Iaito and Shinken.
Utilization on wooden weapons:
Once every 2 months in the wet season, 2 times per month during dry season. For a better preservation of your weapons, it is advisable to carefully rub them with a dry cloth after each use. When you apply the oil, clean the wood surface by rubbing vigorously with a dry cloth, then apply the oil in a thin layer directly with the hand. Allow to dry.
If your weapons are not painted it will not be necessary to sand, but if they are, sanding will help the wood to absorb more oil.
Note that this Camelia oil is initialy intended for skin and hair care. We've selected this oil for it's unmatched quality: 100% pure camelia oil, no additive, cold pressed, cosmetic grade, almost odorless, and halal certified.

Tsubadome (rubber ring) optional (white or brown).

This is the model we recommend to practitioners looking for a big leather Tsuba to fit a standard/deluxe Bokken or a thick koryu bokken. This round tsuba is the largest of our catalog and the center hole is cut either for Standard/Deluxe Bokken or for the Onoha Itto Ryu Bokken. It can be recut on the inside to be adapted to the Keishi Ryu Bokken, the Iwama Ryu and Takemusu Bokken as well as the Hokushin Itto Ryu or the Jigen Ryu Bokken.
This Tsuba cannot be fitted on thin Koryu Bokken (Yagyu, Yagyu Shinkage, Niten Ichi Ryu, etc.).
Onoha Itto Ryu Shoto must be fitted from the standard hole size (Onoha hole size is adapted for the Bokken).

Keishi Ryu Bokken - White Oak
Made in Japan (Kyushu)
Flat Spine | Flat butt | Small Kissaki
White Oak available
Keishi Ryu Bokken is manufactured from a single piece of white oak from the southern islands of Kyushu (Japan). The "Keishi" was created in the late 19th century for the Japanese police. Close to the classical models, but heavier, it is ideal for all types of practice and is an ideal choice for practitioners wanting a heavy and original bokken. It will also be very well suited for Kendo practitioners wishing to learn the Keishi Ryu kata. Due to its weight and balance, its use is close to that of a real katana.
The Keishi Ryu Bokken is thick and heavy, but very close to a standard model in its shape and curvature. This model is often proposed to Aikidoka looking for a heavy bokken for the practice of Suburi or Tanren work, but also for the same purpose, to Kendoka (including practitioners of the Japanese police). Despite its heavy weight, this model is recommended for all practitioners looking for a thick and heavy bokken. Its thickness allows also it to sustain very powerful shocks.
- Choice of wood species: white oak.
- Available finish: Standard Finish or Seido Special Finish
- Manufacturing workshop: Aramaki
Finish options:
In 2021, with concerns for the workers, all workshops greatly reduced the number of urethane-varnished weapons and replaced the finish with "Candle Wax". Seido is now transitioning to a new finish offer for the majority of its weapons.
Standard Finish: At Seido, we complete the workshop finish with Camelia oil treatment by default. This is the standard Seido finish.
We do not apply any additional polishing for this finish, so some weapons might have a slightly rough surface.
For maintenance, we recommend that you oil your weapons about once a month with a vegetal-based oil.Seido Special Finish: For this special Finish, we first apply a Camelia oil polish (oiling and sanding the weapons with oiled sandpaper), then we finish the weapon with high-quality beeswax. This finish makes the wood as smooth as it can be and guarantees excellent protection for several months.
For maintenance, we recommend at least to oil your weapons every month or so. You can also apply wax a few hours after oiling your weapons (if some oil remains on the wood, remove it with a piece of cloth or tissue).Keishi Ryu Bokken Specifications Wood Shirakashi

About Keishi Ryu:
Keishi Ryu is not strictly speaking a school of Kenjutsu, it is a style of practice invented in the late 19th century for the training of the Japanese police. This style of kenjutsu kata included ten kenjustu kata, five iaijutsu kata, and sixteen jujutsu kata. The Iai and Jujutsu kata were gradually forgotten, however, the kenjutsu kata are still widely practiced, especially by the many high level kendo instructors present in the Japanese police.
