Aikidogi Size Tables
These measurements correspond to the measurements of the Dogi when we receive it from the workshop and do not take shrinking into account. Because our Aikidogi are handmade, they may show slight variations within the same size range. More important differences may happen if the fabric did not shrink as much as expected during the bleaching process, but the fabric will shrink more during further washing, and the final measurements will always be the same. All measurements are defined in centimeters and kilograms (imperial metrics are for informational purpose only). You can display multiple size tables at once for easy comparison.
Note on the height/weight ratio:
Ideal weight: ideal weight for which the sizing has been designed.
Max weight: maximum recommended weight for a reasonably correct fit.

How to Choose Your Aikidogi:
Until a few decades ago, Aikido Dogi and Hakama did not exist, and practitioners used (and most still use) Judogi and, sometimes, white Kendogi. Gradually, as Aikido gained prominence, various historical martial arts equipment manufacturers started producing for Aikido, and a few specific products appeared. While Aikido Hakama have emerged rapidly due to the importance of a flexible Koshiita (back plate) to avoid injuries, the Aikidogi are still difficult to find outside of Japan.
Aikido Dogi are more flexible, have shorter sleeves, and longer jackets than Judo Dogi. Most current Aikidogi are designed based on Judo Dogi, including Seido models (AS200 and WA600). These four models are part of "Traditional Aikido Cut" fabricated by other Japanese manufacturers before us.
Besides these four models, we propose 3 other models under the name "New Aikido Cut" (KS200 and AS250) which illustrate subtle changes on the cut, featuring shortened sleeves that reach the middle of the forearm, a significantly longer jacket, and a specific fabric and cuts to make the Aikidogi more flexible and easier to grab (an important element that differs from Judo; in Aikido, we do not seek to prevent the grab of the partner!).
How to Choose Your Size :
Your Height and Weight
The first thing is to confirm your size. This will allow you to select the appropriate Dogi size. Our recommendations consider future Dogi shrinkage.
Sometimes, especially when your weight is over your ideal weight, it is better to select a half size larger. Remove the hundreds digit of your size, and if your weight exceeds this figure, we recommend a larger size. (E.g., your height is 170 cm and your weight 75 kg we advise to opt for half a size larger.)
We indicate the three most important measurements for all models to limit mistakes in the size choice. Measure your current Dogi for comparison (do not forget that a new Dogi will shrink about 2 to 3 cm after washing).
We recommend paying extra attention to the maximum recommended size. A few extra kg/pound (2 ~ 3) is not an issue, and the final fit will also depend on your body shape (muscle ratio), but if you feel you might be above the recommendation, please contact us before placing your order as there is a great chance it will not fit.
A & B Sizes - Thin & Wide Sizes
'A' corresponds to a fitted cut, 'B' corresponds to a large cut.
Our workshop can also produce AA, AAA, BB or BBB sizes on request for particularly strong/thin practitioners. It is then fully custom, the production time is of about 5 weeks and there will be an extra charge of 35% of the price of the closest size.
WA300 and AS200 models can be manufactured as size A/B size system at the same conditions.
Examples:
Size 3A features the length of a size 3, but the width of a size 2. A size is the recommended size for practitioners who are very thin.
Size 3B features the length of a size 3, but the width of a size 4. B size is recommended to practitioners 10~15 kg above their ideal weight. (E.g., your height is 180 cm and your weight is above 90 kg.)
Size 3AA would feature the length of the size 3, but the width of the size 1 and would be recommended if you are about 10~15 kg under your ideal weight. (E.g., your height is 180 cm and your weight is less than 70 kg).

About the Different Types of Fabric
All Seido Dogi are made of 100% cotton, and all our Aikidogi are fully manufactured in Japan: fabric, cutting, and sewing.
"Single Layer" and "Double Layer"
A "double layer" does not mean "two layers" of fabric assembled one on top of the other, but a doubled weaving corresponding approximately to double the thickness of the "Sashiko" (rice grain). The double thickness Dogi are significantly heavier than the single thickness models. They are strong and a little stiffer than the single layer models.
Hishisashi and Sashiko Weaving
Hishisashi weaving is a traditional Japanese weaving made in the shape of a diamond to obtain a good strength for a fabric. It is used for weaving our KS200 model (and the KS100 Kendogi and the Waraku Iaidogi). Sashiko weaving is better known; it is the rice grain weaving that can be found on all Judo Dogi. Very strong, the Sashiko weaving can be made in single or double layer, and 1bu (3mm) and 2bu (6mm) grains. The finer the grain, the stronger the Dogi (all Seido models are woven 3mm). Most Sashiko Dogi are woven in relatively thick Hishisashi on the bottom part. In order to obtain an even lighter sashiko fabric, we have also designed our KS300 model with a cotton/polyester blend fabric, which makes it the lightest Sashiko Gi on the market.

Additional Services for Dogi
It is our goal to create a Dogi that perfectly suit your needs. Therefore, we offer five additional services that you can directly add when putting your Dogi into the cart. They are all made within 2 to 4 business days.
Chest/Hips Cord Option
With this option, you can order the famous "Munehimo", either at the level of the chest and/or the hips. The chest cord is usually (but not exclusively) ordered by women, whereas the hips cord is chosen by both sexes. Note that the hips cord is stitched on the inside of the jacket and is, therefore, invisible. Further, it is attached at a height above where you would usually tie your belt and Hakama, to prevent discomfort.
Magic Tape
Following the same principle as the chest or hips cord, this option is also available on both spots. Although this customization is not very traditional, after numerous requests from our customers we added this option to our site.
Sleeves Cutting Service
As the name suggests, with this option, you can adjust the length of your sleeves. If, for example, you are interested in a particular model because of its cut, but the sleeves seem too long, this option is for you.
Pants Cutting Service
Similar to the Sleeves Cutting Service, but for the pants. Recommended to relatively heavy practitioners, who opt for a large size, but still want the pants to be short enough to be hidden under the Hakama.
Elastic Waist Band for Pants
A simple elastic waist band that is added to the traditional cotton cord. You can remove the cord if you like or even cut the elastic and keep the cord if you change your mind without damaging your pants.
