Sasaki Kojiro Bokken - White Oak
Made in Japan (Kyushu)
Flat Spine | Flat Butt | Short Kissaki
White Oak availableThis Sasaki Kojiro Bokken is basically a Nodachi, or longsword, with a length of 128 cm, featuring proportions derived from shorter Bokken and real Nodachi. Hence, it is a great choice for Kenjutsu or Iaijutsu practitioners wishing to train with a Nodachi.
This Bokken is one of the very few 'standard Nodachi Bokken' still manufactured today.- Choice of wood species: white oak
- Available finish: Standard Finish or Seido Special Finish.
- Manufacturing workshop: Aramaki
Finish options:
In 2021, with concerns for the workers, all workshops greatly reduced the number of urethane varnished weapons and replaced the finish by a "Candle Wax". Seido is now transitioning to a new finish offer for the majority of its weapons.
Standard Finish: At Seido, we complete the workshop finish with Camelia oil treatment by default. This is the standard Seido finish.
We do not apply any additional polishing for this finish, so some weapons might have a slightly rough surface.
For maintenance, we recommend that you oil your weapons about once a month with a vegetal based oil.Seido Special Finish: For this special Finish, we first apply a Camelia oil polish (oiling and sanding the weapons with oiled sand paper), then we finish the weapon with high quality beeswax. This finish makes the wood as smooth as it can be and guarantee an excellent protection for several months.
For maintenance, we recommend at least to oil your weapons every month or so. You can also apply wax a few hours after oiling your weapons (if some oil remains on the wood, remove it with a piece of cloth or tissue).Sasaki Kojiro Bokken Specifications Wood Shirakashi

About Sasaki Kojiro
Despite Sasaki Kojiro lost his last duel against Miyamoto Musashi on the Ganryu Island, he remains one of the most talented and famous samurai of his time. Known for using a very long sword and for his incredibly fast 'Tsubame-Gaeshi' technique ('turning swallow cut'), Sasaki was a master of many arts and founder of his own school called 'Ganryu'.
His use of the Nodachi was so important to him in his late years that he named his sword, 'Monohoshi-Zao' (The 'laundry-drying pole' in English).
Historical details are very uncertain, but it is said that Musashi, knowing Sasaki's special techniques, defeated Sasaki with a long wooden sword he carved from a spare oar of the boat in which he arrived on the island. That Bokken's technical specifications have been preserved in Musashi's school and led to the 'Musashi Original Oar Shaped Bokken' Seidoshop also offers. -
