Lightweight Deluxe Bokken 101.5 cm - Buna
Made in Japan (Kyushu)
Chevroned Spine | Rounded Butt | Long Kissaki
BunaBuna, or Fagus Crenata is a very popular wood in Japan for its rather excellent weight/resistance ratio.
Not as strong as white or red oak, it is much stronger than Isu no Ki or Sunuke wood and is an excellent compromise for practitioners looking for a lightweight Bokken that can sustain rather heavy chocs. Approximately 30% lighter than white oak, it makes an excellent Bokken for women looking for something light, yet with a standard shape, thickness, and length. This Bokken has an extensive finish: a Hanmaru Tsukagashi (rounded), a Kenmine upper edge, and an elongated Daikissaki tip. On the Tsukagashira (pommel) the workshop's label, a cross, is stamped.
While available, other models such as Koryu Bokken or Shoto can be manufactured from the same wood upon request.

Finish options:
In 2021, with concerns for the workers, all workshops greatly reduced the number of urethane-varnished weapons and replaced the finish with "Candle Wax". Seido is now transitioning to a new finish offer for the majority of its weapons.
Standard Finish: At Seido, we complete the workshop finish with Camelia oil treatment by default. This is the standard Seido finish.
We do not apply any additional polishing for this finish, so some weapons might have a slightly rough surface.
For maintenance, we recommend that you oil your weapons about once a month with a vegetal-based oil.Seido Special Finish: For this special Finish, we first apply a Camelia oil polish (oiling and sanding the weapons with oiled sandpaper), then we finish the weapon with high-quality beeswax. This finish makes the wood as smooth as it can be and guarantees excellent protection for several months.
For maintenance, we recommend at least to oil your weapons every month or so. You can also apply wax a few hours after oiling your weapons (if some oil remains on the wood, remove it with a piece of cloth or tissue).Deluxe Buna Bokken Weight 400 ~ 450 g Full Length 101.5 cm Blade Length 75.5 cm Tsuka Length 26 cm Tsuka Diameter 37 x 26 mm Mine Kenmine (chevroned spine) Tsuka Shape Hanmaru (rounded butt) Kissaki Daikissaki (long tip) (~3 cm) *Wood is a living material, color and weight vary from one weapon to another.
