Sword Maintenance Kit for Iaito & Shinken
Made in Japan
Contains: Choji oil (20 mL), Nuguigami, Uchiko, and Uchiko powder.
This maintenance kit for your Iaito or Shinken features Choji Abura (Japanese clove oil) to nourish the Saya of the Iaito or to maintain and protect the blade of a Shinken. Further, it also includes a Uchiko (a chalk powder "ball") and Uchiko powder used for the maintenance of steel blades. The third item in the box is the Nuguigami, a special paper to wipe off excessive oil, and in case of a Shinken also the Uchiko powder.
Same content for each box, only the container changes.
Utilization on Iaito:
Please be aware that the blades of the Iaito are made of chromed alloy and therefore do not need any maintenance. We recommend oiling the blade regularly to help nourish the wood of the Saya from the inside, but we strongly advise against using Uchiko powder as it might slightly scratch the alloy.

The Sayanuri (lacquer) is coated with the strongest scratch-resistant Kuroishime lacquer (black color with sanding effect). Unlike standard Kuroishime lacquer, the process used for this saya is called "Hon Kuroishime" (real Kuroishime) which is the same process used for high-grade real Shinken. The grain is far thinner than that of the standard Ishime finish and there are twice as many layers of lacquer.
These models also feature 2 Mekugi in order to guarantee maximal security.
This instock model is offered with about a 10% discount in comparison to the same options selected on the full custom Hon Koshirae product
The blade is made of reinforced high-quality zinc/aluminum bubble-free alloy (duralumin). Note: Alloy blades do not cut and cannot be sharpened.
Just like the blade, all fitting parts are handmade in Japan and result in a 100% made-in-Japan product. Please note that the former weaving (Kakucho) of the Sageo has been replaced by a new one (Shigeuchi), giving the sageo a thicker look. The Fuchi/Kashira models are also being changed (see pictures).
